I loved going with Penryn through the end of the world, showing how she survives, and what was becoming of the human civilization. As someone who loves the dark side of writing, I found this book very enjoyable to read. That doesn't seem like the case for Angelfall, as the only "romance" done was just a kiss that, in the end, meant nothing (or so we think. I heard that to have a good story, there needs to be some form of romance to keep things interesting. The relationship between Penryn and Raffe happens to be one of my favorite types of relationships snarky, sarcastic, but at the same time, you just feel some type of bond between the two. I always used to wonder when I would come across a book that would make it seem like the angels were the bad guys, and, well, I found it. Angelfall is most definitely a unique story with a dark twist on angels and the apocalypse itself. We kissed each other as if we’d done this so many times before that we’d already learned to anticipate each other’s next move.Īfter God knew how long, we came up for air. He followed my lead without being so passive that his lips were ticklish against mine, and his lips and tongue moved with mine the same way his fingers moved on my skin and in my hair-gentle enough to do this for hours, assertive enough to weaken my knees. He was exactly the kind of kisser I’d fantasized about. As I slid the tip of my tongue under his, his fingers twitched on my back. My heartbeat marked time against my ribs, and the hiss of hands over clothes told me the world had just fallen silent and I hadn’t really lost my hearing. He slowly wrapped his arms around me and parted his lips for me, and I pushed a hand up into his hair, but it was like the whole world around us was as still as the concrete encasing us. Introductory Lectures on Aesthetics Introduction A Note on the Translation and CommentaryĬhapter I: The Range of Aesthetic Defined, and Some Objections against the Philosophy of Art Refuted Many such challenging ideas are developed in this superb treatise it counts among the most stimulating works of a master thinker. While it scaled supreme heights in ancient Greece, Hegel doubted art's ability to encompass Christian belief or the reflective irony characteristic of modern societies. Art derives its value from offering a sensory vision of the God-like absolute, from its harmonious fusion of form and content, and from summing up the world-view of an age such as Homer's. Its central pillars consist of logic, philosophy of nature and philosophy of spirit. To resolve this apparent paradox, as Michael Inwood explains in his incisive Introduction, we must understand the particular place of aesthetics in Hegel's vast intellectual edifice. But although he lived in the German golden age of Goethe, Schiller and Mozart, he also believed that art was in terminal decline. I knew something big was coming - it was inevitable. I've been flipping between the ebook at my desk at work and the audiobook everywhere else, because I couldn't stand being away from the world so beautifully crafted and the people I'd come to care about, worry about, and so love to hate!
